Engineering Science Electives for BioE Majors
The undergraduate program requires that 6 credits of engineering science electives be successfully completed for the undergraduate B.S. in bioengineering. Although there are a number of methods to fulfill this requirement, we do have some policies to guide your selections. These policies include:
- All courses must have an ENXX or BIOE prefix;
- All engineering science electives must be at the 200-level or above;
- At least one course (3 credits) must be at the 300-level or above;
- One course (3 credits) must be a technical, scientific lecture based course;
- Only 3 credits of BIOE399 may be used to fulfill this requirement;
- Any course approved by your faculty advisor, but not violating our stated policies, may be used to satisfy this requirement.
You can find potential engineering science electives in the course catalog and in Testudo (www.testudo.umd.edu), our online service where you will also find admission, registration, financial, class scheduling, residency, and other important information. If you have questions, please contact your advisor, visit the Clark School's Office of undergraduate Advising and Academic Support, or e-mail bioe-undergrad@umd.edu. You may also wish to consult the Bioengineering Undergraduate Student Handbook.
In order to help guide your engineering science elective selection, we have identified five potential areas of study that would allow you to focus your efforts within a bioengineering field. These areas are provided as a guide only. The concentration areas and potential engineering science elective courses are listed below.
