Molecular and Cellular Bioengineering Research Experiences for Undergraduates (REU) Program

CELLULAR ENGINEERING AND MECHANOBIOLOGY

P.I.: Hsieh
Lab | E-mail

Tissues of the musculoskeletal system are subjected to large magnitudes of mechanical stress.  Understanding and manipulating how these physical forces are transduced to elicit a cellular response will have important implications in the prevention of disorders and repair.  This project will entail the use of biological techniques to engineer cellular mechanotransduction either at the level of cell-tissue interactions or intracellular signaling.  Specifically, using existing cellular systems we developed in the lab (or constructing your own), the REU student will be expected to examine how the engineered system behaves mechanically and biologically under externally applied forces.
