Dr. Robert E. Fischell (M.S. '53).

Dr. Robert E. Fischell is one of our best known alumni: a satellite communications expert, an inventor of life-saving medical devices, and more recently, a dedicated benefactor who, along with his family, established both the Fischell Fellowship in Biomedical Engineering and the Fischell Department of Bioengineering.

But it's time to add another line to his resume: opera singer!

Fischell will be appearing as the Sergeant of Police in a production of Gilbert & Sullivan's Pirates of Penzance at the University of Maryland's Clarice Smith Performing Arts Center on Saturday, June 7, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in the Ina and Jack Kay Theatre. Money raised from this performance will support scholarships for UM students in the performing arts. For more information and to order tickets, visit the Clarice Smith Center's web site.

Sponsorship opportunities are available from $100 to $2,500. For sponsorship information, contact Scott Eichinger at (301) 405-5550.
