3rd Annual Fischell Festival to Highlight Biomedical Devices

WHAT: Learn what the future holds in bioengineering and biomedical devices, and how engineers and healthcare providers can work together to achieve that future.

Events include:
• Talks by Dr. Robert E. Fischell, entrepreneur and member of the National Academy of Engineering, on the "The New Svelte Stent," and Dr. Harvey Fineberg, president of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academies, on "Innovation in Medical Technology"

• A live, streamcast cardiothoracic surgical procedure from the University of Maryland School of Medicine with Johannes Bonatti, M.D., Department of Surgery at UM School of Medicine and Bartley Griffith, M.D., director of the Division of Cardiac Surgery and Cardiothoracic Transplantation and professor of the Department of Surgery at the UM School of Medicine

• Seminars and discussions on new medical imaging technologies, image-guided robotics, tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, and drug targeting and imaging approaches using nanotechnology

• Announcement of the Fischell Institute for Biomedical Devices

• Research poster session

• A career fair and information expo for UM students, featuring leading bioengineering companies, associations, institutions and agencies

WHO: The Fischell Department of Bioengineering (A. James Clark School of Engineering, University of Maryland, College Park), has invited industry and academic experts, engineering students and entrepreneurs to showcase some of the latest technologies and insights in the fields of bioengineering.
