Bioengineering Seminar Series: Ethan Cohen Visual Prostheses for the Blind: Development of New Methods for Assessment of Safe and Effective Retinal Stimulation
Presented by Ethan Cohen
Visual prostheses for the blind are currently in clinical trials around the world. Here at the FDA Office of Science and Engineering Labs, my lab is involved in devising new methods for determining safe levels of electrical stimulation by retinal prostheses for the blind. We are currently trying to understand how these stimulating prostheses activate the retinal cell layers by optical and bioimpedance measurements of the eyewall, and developing novel technologies for recording from large groups of stimulated neurons. I will discuss a mass recording technique for retinal ganglion cells using a transconductance amplifier-based focal plane imaging chip. This Event is For: Graduate • Faculty • Post-Docs |
