Repairing Spinal Cord Injury: Strategies and Challenges

Presented by Herbert Geller
National Institutes of Health

Recovery of function after major injury to the mammalian spinal cord is limited, primarily due to the inability of severed axons to regenerate through the injured area. This seminar will outline the major factors that impede regeneration, and present several strategies for promoting regeneration. These strategies are based on advances in understanding the cell biology of spinal cord injury as well as application of novel molecular biological and nanoscale biomaterials approaches.
